It always struck me that if gaming is in the mix, why not get the distro that puts it first? Docker is less fussy than a new release Steam game so Bazzite just seems like the logical choice. I use it heedlessly for work so game mode works out well for me. If I used it as a desktop and didn’t care about gaming then bluefin all the way

Very interesting, do you have any projects using it? Curious how it performs and what kind of commerce support it has so far. I think the AI accelerator angle is great, most buisnesses that build with Laravel and these kinds of frameworks want this kind of thing provided you can give them a sandbox to work within

in my experience, small sass apps like this really end up being a proxy service to sell yourself and your insights into businesses. My advice is to roadshow this heavily by constantly demonstrating it to organizations and just pitching pitching pitching go one user at a time and as long as they pay, keep going.

I do web development mostly, but I dabble in everything. I like to work from my Macbook because it’s nicer, but I have my bazzite system available through ssh and use it as a host for docker and many other things.
Claude Code becoming my tool of choice for development, and claude remote-control is a nice way to link up several boxes to one unified interface in Claude where you can trigger devcontainers and expose the ports via cloudflared.
An ASOP trifold and a compelling Airplay alternative so my headphones float between devices like in the Apple ecosystem. The iPhone doesn’t live in a vacuum though so ARM on Linux laptops will also need to mature a bit. But in this world, I replace three Apple devices with two and it would open up third party accessories.

I gave up on Star Trek during Picard Season 2 so maybe something has changed but from the trailer I saw it seems no lessons were learned and it clearly would just be rage bait for me to watch. Having said that, I think there’s age and demographic differences where what I dislike might appeal to others so your milage may vary. Suffice to say it doesn’t seem like a return to form, so I’ll respectfully pass.
Random display issues can be normal. I never encountered this though but at least for me (Nvidia RTX 4070) I see weirdness sometimes between games or if I plug in an extra monitor during a session. It gets better over time, Nvidia support is still new. Other chips are more stable but the same basic rules still apply

I honestly think it does. If you’re like me, then:
* You live and do well in a Christian society, grew up with Christianity and went to church, was baptized etc
* Caught yourself thinking about the Jesus story and have ever let that move your thinking
* Follow it’s major holidays and practice it’s customs because of family
* Genuinely like the Jesus narrative and find him badass
* Have to revert to Christian vernacular and shared concepts on a regular basis
Some people get ahead of themselves, not the worst quality. You should obviously recognize she’s in over her head, but if she’s otherwise a decent person then give her some patience and talk this stuff out. For me, I’d rather have someone who just blurbs out what they feel instead of holding it in, and if she’s the type to go for the things she wants you might find plenty of examples where that fault is an asset.
AEM 6.5 is dying a slow but inevitable death, AEM as a Cloud Service will be around for many years to come but is not where Adobe is putting emphasis. Adobe sees the future of AEM as Edge Delivery Services (see aem.live) and Universal Editor (experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/e… which actually shows that Adobe is trying to reach parity with AEM Classic). They believe that customizations should migrate to Adobe Developer App Builder.
There’s also homebrew support, which installs packages to your home directory and is a nice way to bring common tools into the system without dealing with flatpaks i.e. `brew install rclone`. For GUI apps, flatpaks seem worth the frustration as it’s generally been more stable, and flatpaks give you some containerized niceties that feel more modern i.e. I need to tell syncthing about my mounted drive otherwise it’s outside of it’s sandbox meaning it’s not liable to dirty up my installation.
I can’t run AC: Shadows, and Diablo 4 tends to crash the graphics card on exit and I need to hard reboot. Also, sometimes the side-menu becomes visually unreadable which I assume is some compositor issue. Beyond these three things, it actually is quite stable and seems to run everything. Pretty good so far, I’m enjoying it and the immutable os makes it feels stable enough. Unlike traditional installs, when it blows up in my face I can usually bail it out with ujust.
Got to wonder how this works. Think this is some in-the-moment power play? Like in the background, Melina is angling for something and she’s cut him off until she gets a yes? Seems like you’d just leave her in some apartment if she’s truly this cold, so I imagine there’s a balance here we’re missing?

For lunch you could be eating a salad without the bread, and make this your dinner portion. This doesn’t strike me as too bad, I imagine it’s the other calories you’re taking in. Liquids can be especially damaging, really should stick to water and 0 calorie sodas and the like.
www.reddit.com/r/fitmeal…
It’s worth learning because it will be in the market for the next decade, but Adobe believes Edge Delivery Services is the future of AEM and has actively started building that out and migrating customers to it. EDS with Universal Editor still expects AEM for content persistence so expertise is important in the foreseeable future even as they sunset it.
The virtue of learning AEM is that it, in essence, is an Ingres to more modern headless development by way of SPAs, Universal Editor, and even EDS which is analogous to gitflow-driven static site generation while still giving you enough pain and frustration to teach you about traditional monolith development.
As a lefty, I don’t seek out anything special. I mostly use mice and scissors with my right hand, and I typically flip binders around so the spiral is on the other side so I can write better with my left hand. For everything else it just has never been a problem. In my case I still use my right hand a good bit, I can’t write with it very well but I’m mostly ambidextrous.
I’ve gone through this, it helped when I realized that me and the average hot girl are the same insofar as we wanted to be left alone and not gawked at. Once you realize gym culture is really about everyone being on their own island then it stops being a big deal. Everyone there, in their way, is going through the same emotional insecurities you are.

I’m obsessed with OS’ too, so I can relate tbh but it’s important to realize nobody else cares and cut them some slack. It’s also smart to take your friends switch back as a call for reflection - if he actually tried and couldn’t get over a jump then perhaps your views need to flex?

Honestly, the real argument is that if you install Arch with the GNOME packages, the default experience on Arch doesn’t feel as clean. For example, you’ll an have an administrator account at login, kind of gross. There’s also a bunch of junk in the activities menu, it’s generally just dirtier. Fedora is great and it’s my go to distro but Arch is nicer on temperamental hardware.

I smoke like an ounce of week with a vape pen too, and this makes me think I have a similar problem - my emotional regulation is tied to my consumption. I think you’re right to point this out, and if my SO did I’d like to think I’d dry out just to test her theory and to demonstrate I love her.
Edit: Oz split two ways, so really a half - wanted to clarify since it’s getting popular!
Packman is one of my go-tos too. I see how he rides the line of “sensationalist headlines” and over the last year I’ve found his Trumpian tonal shift to be quite funny. My take is that he understands that he operates as a bit of a counter-balance to the FOX News talking head so he matches their intensity in positioning of his main talking point, but underneath that he’s kind of a let-the-facts-lead kind of guy and that lines up with my personality
There’s several variants of both Mother 1 and 2. There’s Mother 1 in Japanese, if I recall it has several localizations, including the official one “Earthbound Beginnings” which you can find on the Switch NES Online service; I understand a proper localized patch is the preferred path, but every time you google these things you get a different perspective.
There’s also several Mother 2/Earthbound ROM hacks and localization patches to consider.
It’s all about taking action and making it happen. Women who go out with you are already open to the possibility of physical intimacy, so it’s just a matter of changing your approach. Even if you keep doing the same thing, it’s all about numbers. Just don’t give up, it’s not a good look and it’s really disheartening.

In fairness to your ignorant friend, but many “designers” stick to tools like Figma and XD and do not really get into the coding side of things. Fundamentally, the web is based on HTML, CSS and JS if you want to be a developer then you’ll be up to your neck in it or server-side language generating some combination of it. If your goal is to be a designer, that is a different set of skills and doesn’t necessary require those technologies
GNOME is fantastic and has a lot of common with MacOS. From my standpoint, the biggest thing you lose is the headphones sync between devices which can be an irreplaceable feature if you have enough devices to share them between. Other than that, it feels like mostly small potatoes. SMS Message sync can be replaced with qtconnect, Google Voice or the Android Messages web app… there’s options. Chrome is mostly a decent replacement for Safari, especially if you have an Android TV or Chromecasts and all that.
For me, it was that Hogwarts game that just came out. A few years back, I abandoned PC gaming as I was pretty impressed with my Series X and I had just invested in a GTX 1080 and was fuming that RTX had basically obsoleted my card out of the gate. Fast forward to a few months ago, I have a Series X and a Steam Deck and my girlfriend wants Hogwarts Legacy.
You could always “trade” him for an item of comparable value, and if one breaks you keep the other. I mean, if he’s your brother and he’s going to do it anyways, you might as well mitigate the issue by planning to recoup your losses. I mostly agree with “fuck him, lock it away” but if he’s going to win anyways why not find some balance in the agreement?

Here I thought the purpose of Picard was a thoughtful introspection about a great leader we all believe in confronting a harsh new era paralleling our own. I don’t think it’s important that DS9 viewers feel seen, I think it’s important that they write a good story finally. This show feels like little more than a backdrop for an actor reunion.

I’m a big fan of turning a non-motivator around. If you hate eating healthy, find foods you love that happen to be healthy. I eat a lot of Mexican lately, chicken burritos seem fine and three Taco Bell tacos is only 600c. I also find salads as a meal replacement is very helpful. You can double up on your dinner calories if you phone in lunch with a salad. Also, I started drinking a ton of water in hopes that it might help with skin elasticity but the side effect to that is you fill your stomach immediately.
Personally, the one file with html anchor concept just seems like your hardcoded a webpage. I think it’s a nice theme though, and the source does seem well formed. I would reconsider Jekyll or another static generator, seems separating your content from the presentation layer is the last step here. Either way, good work!

How will the employees get to work if they have evacuated their houses and communities? How will they be safe if the roads are covered in hazards and normal traffic isn’t allowed to operate? This letter says nothing on how they’ll secure their safety, or even if they’ll give them time and a half for their efforts. Seems to me that Lowe’s certainly has the resources to do this all correctly, are they?
What an annoying read. There is no secret handshake that will make your friends like you, obviously your cheapness annoys them. You can either own your cheapness and find more accepting friends, or you can try and emulate them to try and win them back over. Either way, I too would probably get tired of some holier than thou act from a guy who can’t even afford food. Imagine if I spent weeks trying to find the perfect beer to share with my friends and we’re all talking about our adventures finding it and you’re like “this was sixty cents at the corner store, you guys are ridiculous' I’d probably make fun of you too.

The thing is, we eat at these luncheons maybe once every dozen or so occassions, so I am effectively imposing a diet on other people. I do it with good intentions, though, as well to alleviate some of my own guilt (as I said, I don’t want to be the impetus for others eating meat if I can help it).

I know, it’s needlessly confusing. I say just add Emulation Station and play most ROMs through that. Here’s how (from memory):
Open Steam ROM Manager on the left-hand list enable the “Emulators” one then click the top “Preview” link near the top of the sidebar Click “Generate App List” It should add a bunch of emulators, make sure Emulation Station is in the list Save so it stores it in Steam Then, go into steam delete the other emulator entries because you only care about ES Launch Emulation Station, and your ROMs should be here HTH
Gym etiquette is pretty clear in this regard, people basically are an island unto themselves, and the less interaction the better; you shouldn’t even be looking in people’s directions if you can avoid it. Sounds to me like a better gym is in order. Obviously, you don’t want to confront this creep, seems like the gym should either step up and deal with this without involving you or you should just find a place where this kind of thing isn’t an issue.

I found Noom to be quite helpful at first, it’s methods are very useful and I’ve lost like 60 pounds so far following them. I don’t like it’s app though, and once it started to not work on my phone I switched to MyFitnessPal. The noom methodology emphasises education and thoughtfulness, which once you learn what they are teaching you really can’t help but view things differently. Once you are armed with the knowledge, I think it’s fine to abandon noom for cheaper apps.
I skipped ahead and was like “how are these two grandpas going to talk about esports” but then I realized that Excel wasn’t the brand of those holding the competition… it’s a competition about who can use Microsoft Excel the best? I’d check out MyFitnessPal and do the calculations yourself. At its best, Noom gave me very liberal calorie goals that never felt right. When the app was down a month or two ago, I was given something insane like 4400 calories when it came back. Noom was great initially, but it’s best to do your own math and keep on it in the long term.

This happened to me too, set as “delivered” on Wednesday. I took the day off to play with it, so pretty devastating. FedEx has been no help, they were supposed to call yesterday with some updates to the investigation. I have asked Valve support to initiate the lost package procedure FedEx mentioned. Very frustrating to say the least, seems like they set themselves up for failure and I shouldn’t be expected to pay for it.
All too relatable. The real kicker is that WebAgency probably _did_ enter this with the best of intentions. Individual contributors care a lot, and the CEO cares a lot, but they aren’t the ones planning and resourcing everything. Agencies are good when a big company needs someone to do their thinking for them through a long-term relationship. Even then, there’s no crystal ball as to whether a relationship is a good idea, will be successful, or if the work will be any good.
First of all, it’s important to build a good foundation before you start hiring people. Decide on coding standards, and the basic tech stack, and make sure you have a nice project management system and process in mind. Nothing worse than hiring people only to discover they aren’t capable of working in the environment you’re giving them.

The origins of GNOME3 were rooted in duplicating the common old Mac OS X setup with the dock hidden on the side, and a hot corner for expose. In this way, it’s a damn good take on the first truly good modern desktop. I’d go as far as to say that GNOME 41 is the best workstation desktop there is.

Hardware compatibility largely comes down to your kernel version. The other major consideration is firmware, which some distros like Fedora can manage and update for you through tools like fwupdmgr, what firmwares are available largely depend on the package repos you are using. There’s also the ability to run some Windows WIFI drivers on Linux using ndiswrapper which can be useful if your wifi card doesn’t have native kernel support. Either way, it’s usually a good idea to look up your system on something like the Arch Wiki and check out compatibility and see if there are any changes you should make to improve compatibility.
I have an XPS 7590 running Fedora 35 and it’s pretty solid. All the hardware works out of the box, except for the fingerprint scanner. I think the productive way to think of this is that the writers are just trying to use Star Trek as a backdrop set dressing. They have no interest in the history of the universe. I find this a bit disappointing personally, but me and 10 other people care about such things. They do write a few tie-in episodes, but I think in basically all cases you could classify them as homages to specific concepts or key episodes.
I think the difference was supposed to be that Holograms are basically NPCs with software that can convincingly pass a Turing test, but there really isn’t any light behind the eyes. Androids are actually sentient, and their personality and emotional states are extensions of that sentience.
One of the implied questions of Voyager, at least to my mind, is if that distinction makes a difference? Especially in S1, it was clear that The Doctor wasn’t respected by the crew because everyone knew intellectually that he was just a chatbot.
It is and it isn’t. I’m vaccinated, have been basically living the normal life, mostly not masking but a bit lately with the new variants. But even still, my office is still closed; I go in and work anyways but I’m technically not supposed to. I kind of enjoy working from home though, so this hasn’t been an issue. The real problems stem from stores and resturants. Either they are closed, understaffed, or understocked.
Tons of cynicism. People care now because it’s front of mind, they see it on the news and realized something was happening and it doesn’t sit right with them. Should everyone had cared all along? Sure, obviously. But in case y’all haven’t noticed, the last four-eight-twelve years was a carnival where our national attention was stretched beyond our abilities to track more shit. Maybe this was on purpose, remember Hong Kong?
It feels like, if anything, Q rushed humanities introduction to the Borg. Picard’s all like “he did us a favor”, but considering all the following interactions (scooping up colonies, First Contact, etc) were a direct result I’m just not sure I buy that. It’s basically established that the reason for The Borg’s out-and-out invasion was they perceived humanity as a threat. Obviously, Humanity is no threat whatsoever so not sure how Q did anyone a favor here.
Realistically, you shouldn’t be putting yourself in a position to “lose all the time”. Ideally, you build upon successes and then try to achieve a bigger success. Failing to achieve can be tough, especially when there’s a ton of effort involved, but if you feel like you’re completely on your ass every time then you probably should be thinking of your goals in terms of smaller steps.

Is there any thought around how to make Fedora more laptop-friendly?

So weird, we just watched this episode the other night. The episode is a bit of a stretch in the sense that they’ve had space travel for a thousand years and something like this has never come up? In our society, we have laws that cover pretty much everything, surely there would be established precedence and nobody (except for Trip) would be confused about the consequences.
I imagine, in reality, ‘euthanizing’ them would be an option.
It’s hard to say. Personally, I think the Roddenberry formula was paramount to getting the feel of Star Trek right, but I think Trek is at its best when it’s a bit more self-aware. DS9 is probably my favorite series in all, but that’s because it took tropes defined in TNG (which is a seminal TV series, generally, to my mind) and tested them on a regular basis. I find that kind of departure very compelling.
I can understand the maintainer’s point, it seems like in essence, people want drag-and-drop positioning, which is a complexity I wouldn’t want to add either. Personally, having dabbled in some light extension-making recently, couldn’t find a way to set extension load-order or set one extension as depending on another, both of which seem to be basic features they need to add. Either of which could speak towards an answer to the basic problem of ‘things keep loading in random order’ which is kind of annoying.
My thoughts here are that this is an interesting example of cognitive dissonance. I guess the core issue isn’t if we agree the lunatic shouldn’t have a gun, but rather the philosophical question as to _if_ an authority is qualified to make that decision. I wonder how far this goes, if Libertarians believe that the state shouldn’t regulate guns whatsoever, should the state allow them inside prisons? Should violent ex-cons get their gun rights back with their freedom?
Imagine if we knew all the math governing the matter in the universe, if we had a snapshot of matter-placement for any point of time, we could extrapolate the positionings at any point of our timeline. Then, imagine if we had the ability to reposition that matter, we could recreate the conditions of any point we like. You may argue that ‘well maybe you could do this with a solar system, but there are billions of humans on our planet, not to mention all the lower life… would you be able to precisely predict their movements based on one snapshot?
In fairness, I think we’ve all taken a look at our project’s package.json and wondered where in the hell the front-enders in our org get this shit. But generally, when you look through their trendy set of libraries and the gulp workflows running it, it’s typically fairly sensical. I find a lot of times, this kind of thing is a team member or two trying to enhance their dev experience, and while it can be hit-or-miss it’s not like people don’t do these things in other areas.
For the most part, Star Trek is a hard-science universe and encourages us to view religions in that context. DS9 and TNG, for example, it’s clear that humans are generally atheists. When Picard interfered with that proto-Vulcan culture, he wouldn’t play to their belief systems because he refused to lead them down a bronze-age religious path. DS9 shows it fairly well, the Bajorans see the wormhole aliens as the prophets, but even to people who have witnessed them firsthand they still wouldn’t call them prophets regularly.
I think a lot of people fall into this perspective that nobody will ever love them, and they take past experience as evidence. But really what this means is that the approach your using is unsuccessful. In reality, even if you have severe physical and mental issues, there are still people out there who will be into it, probably more than you realize. My advice is to lean into the statistics, go to an online dating site, clean up your profile and picture so you don’t come off as an axe murderer, and cast a wide net.
I came up with dial-up in the ’90s, and around the turn of the century we had in-home broadband and that felt a bit transitional. I remember when everything started shipping with Wifi (802.11B) that was a turning point. Also, Google Assistant doesn’t get enough credit. Lately, when I walk in the door the lights come on and the AC kicks in, that’s been in full swing for about 5 years now.
MB is a bad character and feels out of place in Star Trek because she’s the exact kind of character we never needed before. It’s obvious why the actor was hired, she’s incredible and has a wide range of emotion. I think they thought that her talent would carry the show, and on some level it does, but kung-fu, crying theatrics, and the need for one hero to solve every situation - these just aren’t suppoed to be Trek tropes.
Type-C charging requires a power adapter that supports the USB-PD (Power Delivery) protocol, you can’t just charge your laptop with your phone’s charger. The upside is you can charge your phone with a PD charger, so that charger can be a common charger for all your Type-C devices.

I would not buy a Pentium, an i5 seems OK but in 2021 you’re probably going to do better price/performance-wise by looking at Rysen systems. The saving grace of the first system you linked to was USB-C charging, which typically I say is a hard requirement. I guess if your extremely budget-conscious then maybe you look past it, but personally, I’d rather dig through used laptops and try to find something last generation with decent specs and perhaps thunderbolt if you really plan on using the thing full-time.
I went down this path, and while it was ok I didn’t think it handled weird resolutions well, and I wanted something kind of specific with Google Calendar that wasn’t trivial to pull off. Personally, I think the desired behavior would be to merge the two directories - which would have the contents of the new directory clobber the old directory, which should be a bit more straightforward programmatically.
But honestly, I think _duplicating_ the file table in MySQL seems redundant. With the S3 library you can list out the contents, I think my approach would be to make your API a wrapper for that and try and dispense with the MySQL table abstraction.
Before they became funny jpegs, memes were defined as ‘thought viruses’ sort of like to how religion can spread and take hold on a population. If implementing Windows is “really up to Microsoft” then I would think there’s a path for ol' Linus to realize his dream. As someone on Facebook said when I critiqued Disco, it’s cool if you don’t like it as long as you don’t try and ruin it for those who do. That’s basically my approach, I’ve loved enough Trek to know that I don’t like Disco, and I suppose a silver lining is that it can be a gateway drug to the rest of the franchise. It doesn’t really matter, 90’s Trek stands on it’s own so Picard and Disco can’t really tarnish it.
I switched from my mainstay Fedora 32 with GNOME to KDE Neon about a month ago, after playing with a couple of desktop options. I’m about to go into the reboot after installing this update, but so far KDE plus Latte Dock has been a great place to live. I decided that even with the older release of Ubuntu, that the real goal for getting the latest packages was to get new destkop packages, and Neon is basically as fresh as it gets as far as that goes.
Practically speaking, as soon as he speaks the words “Picard to Data”, the data connection is made. So you may be working with a 2-3 second delay, but this isn’t unheard of today in a video or voice call, so even with the initial delay it would hardly be noticable. Then consider they could cut silence or slightly speed up buffered audio until it catches up.

You should try Windows 10 in Tablet Mode, if you hide the taskbar in Tablet Mode, it should give you roughly the same experience as Windows 8. I too think Windows 8 was something special, but it’s more-or-less intact in Windows 10.
Alos, not getting updates is huge, not only does that mean security issues are bound to come up and your data isn’t secure, it also means that drivers and software updates can’t improve performance and fix issues that could cause crashes.
Not that I’m really interested in defending this video, but isn’t it possible that he thought he was being personable and thought people would take him as more genuine if he acted like he was trying to form some bond with these kids? I mean this looks terrible and a bit rapey with modern eyes, but is that really what’s going on here?

I had good experiences overall, met a lot of girls - many of them found fault in me and we only went on one date, but I saw several girls a few times and sometimes even hear from one or two out of the blue. But eventually, after about six months of taking it seriously, I met my current girlfriend whom I love to death and have been with for going on five years now.
Adobe should want everyone to feel like they need a Creative Cloud license. If any of it worked on Linux, I might even see the appeal and push my company to get me one. Linux is just another platform to target, one a lot of professionals use and is sorely missing a decent creative suite. So is my Chromebook, for that matter. I thought Adobe was all about this cross-platform stuff, seeing them target an iPadOS version of Photoshop is disappointing.
I’ve noticed some cables, like my Dell WD-15 dock, seem to be loose in the port while others are very tug. I’ve heard some mixed reviews about https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Adapter-Connector-Transfer-Compatible/dp/B07TT6NGBC/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=usb+c+magnetic+data&qid=1567282002&s=gateway&sr=8-7 which should allow for data transfer and power delivery. I’ve thought about investing in some, too.

Compared to the other Changelings, Odo isn’t a very good shapeshifter. They cover this in the episode “Children of Time” where Odo has a lifetime to practice shapeshifting and can more convincingly pull off human features. A good episode, if your interested in this sort of thing.

I got one of these last week, I like it a lot so far. The major issue I’ve had so far is with the two WD-15 docks I own. The one at work works more-or-less, but it doesn’t bring the system out of standby. At home, the display has stopped working. This reminds me of the early days of my XPS 9550 (same laptop, a few generations ago) and these problems were totally solved by the time this laptop came along.
Seems like it would go far beyond this. Imagine a world where you go to work in a Holodeck; you enter the room, you say you want to go to Starfleet Command, and it appears around you, while simultaneously a hologram of you appears in the actual building somewhere in San Fransisco. Imagine you meet a girl there, and decide to have dinner with her. Perhaps she’s on the Enterprise, and you’re on DS9, if you both have access to a holodeck, why not just have the date virtually in the holodeck?
I would say one leg up many Linux users have is they have experienced installing it from scratch, and therefore know they can do it again if they end up breaking everything. If you know you can bring it back to a working state no matter how bad you screw something up, it liberates you to experiment a bit more.

This is ironic, because the Pixel Slate is an outstanding tablet for running Chrome. Far better experience than using it on any Windows tablet. Google’s touch controls are fully compatible with Chrome, power management and battery life on a Pixel outperform my defunct Surface Pro 4. I hope they continue to improve the tablet experience, otherwise this $1000 Pixel Slate i5 might not have been such a great purchase after all.
This is like a list of regressions and things you can add through extensions.gnome.org. The thing to keep in mind is GNOME is part design philosophy, the vanilla experience is spartan but GNOME gives a lot under the hood for apps to take advantage. Granted, I don’t think the project is quite there yet as GNOME 3.x is meant to be an in-progress desktop. Still, it seems the author would be happier with some other GNOME-based DE’s that are designed to give him the (rather old-school) UX he seeks.
Go ahead and bring it up, if you like it and your talking about your likes, what’s wrong with it? If she hears Trek and wants to bail you weren’t going to like her anyways. Just don’t talk about any of your dumb hobbies too much, whatever you talk about she should enjoy the conversation.

The best way to do this is with Google’s Remote Desktop implementation https://remotedesktop.google.com/ . The client works purely in Chrome, supports touch, and will generally be less resource intensive then Android solutions like Steam or Moonlight. There is a Moonlight for Chrome, but it it’s unusable on ChromeOS in my experience.

Sometimes people are needlessly abrasive and adversarial, in my experience these are oftentimes decent enough people but for whatever reason can’t fathom why their boarish behavior would ever bother anymore. It sounds like he sucks up all the oxygen in the room and nobody on his team is willing to confront them. In my experience, these assholes are people too and when you get to know them you’ll find a way to look past their behavior.
