Sometimes people are needlessly abrasive and adversarial, in my experience these are oftentimes decent enough people but for whatever reason can’t fathom why their boarish behavior would ever bother anymore. It sounds like he sucks up all the oxygen in the room and nobody on his team is willing to confront them. In my experience, these assholes are people too and when you get to know them you’ll find a way to look past their behavior.

But it’s sometimes fun to give them a taste of their own medicine. If he’s not used to confrontation, you’ll be surprised at how far a little push-back will go. Especially in public, I’ve found you’ll usually get away with pointing out if someone is being an asshole in a standup if it happens to be true. It’s a jungle out there.
