I would not buy a Pentium, an i5 seems OK but in 2021 you’re probably going to do better price/performance-wise by looking at Rysen systems. The saving grace of the first system you linked to was USB-C charging, which typically I say is a hard requirement. I guess if your extremely budget-conscious then maybe you look past it, but personally, I’d rather dig through used laptops and try to find something last generation with decent specs and perhaps thunderbolt if you really plan on using the thing full-time. I would also make sure any laptop I bought had one or two M.2 slots (supporting NVMe), upgradable RAM, and personally I’d gauk at anything with an optical drive.

But the best advice for buying a linux laptop is searching forums and the arch wiki for guides and threads about people setting it up. Make sure the bluetooth and wifi are compatible (or at least easily swappable), that the system can enter deep sleep states (S3/S5), that it has support for Virtualization (the i5 should), and that the thermals are good enough that it doesn’t sound like a jet engine in Linux.

Contrary to the advice in this thread, I’ve had several friends whose girlfriend would endure ‘taking a break’ just to prove they are the right ones all along. If your girlfriend says she’s done then believe it, otherwise assume she’s not done yet.

I went down this path, and while it was ok I didn’t think it handled weird resolutions well, and I wanted something kind of specific with Google Calendar that wasn’t trivial to pull off. I ended up going with dakboard.com which has a nice web portal to manage it, and even has a raspbian image with the software preloaded.

The Federation would/should not make such a deal, it would be immoral to share technology with those that would use it to oppress others. That’s the exact type of Faustian bargain they could explore in an episode of Star Trek, maybe Discovery could take this one on.

Personally, I think the desired behavior would be to merge the two directories - which would have the contents of the new directory clobber the old directory, which should be a bit more straightforward programmatically.

But honestly, I think _duplicating_ the file table in MySQL seems redundant. With the S3 library you can list out the contents, I think my approach would be to make your API a wrapper for that and try and dispense with the MySQL table abstraction. As for the upload logic, my initial thought would be to just leverage the S3 upload functionality and let it handle the conflicts as it would. It would give you less control, but it would be less code and its behavior would be more predictable and likely more stable as you’re stripping out a lot of logic.

Before they became funny jpegs, memes were defined as ‘thought viruses’ sort of like to how religion can spread and take hold on a population. I wonder if there’s a similar term to describe this phenomenon where presumably otherwise decent people are exposed to a concept and turn into gaslighting psychopaths?

If implementing Windows is “really up to Microsoft” then I would think there’s a path for ol' Linus to realize his dream. Apple has lightning in a bottle with the M1, if they can get other OSs to run on it they may effectively dominate the consumer market until down the line when someone builds a competing chip or a government steps in.

So I feel like you can pause it at the first point. The video makes a claim that Biden describes black kids as “super-predators” and then shows a series of video clips as proof but he doesn’t once use the term, or in his remarks did he refer to anyone by race.

As someone on Facebook said when I critiqued Disco, it’s cool if you don’t like it as long as you don’t try and ruin it for those who do. That’s basically my approach, I’ve loved enough Trek to know that I don’t like Disco, and I suppose a silver lining is that it can be a gateway drug to the rest of the franchise. It doesn’t really matter, 90’s Trek stands on it’s own so Picard and Disco can’t really tarnish it.

As a life-long South Carolinian, I can vouch for Rodney Scotts that place has incredible food. I’d suggest checking out the CoC area, King St. and the like, plenty to do and see. The battery and the old market are also great choices.
