The thing ChromeOS does better than Windows is run Chrome. My Pixel Slate running ChromeOS is better than any Surface for running Chrome.

The i5 model is a better machine today than when I bought it like two years ago. Other than an iPad, I’m still not sure if there’s anything better on the market. I haven’t really used it for work, but I’ve played with Crostini enough to know that I could if I needed to.

I bought my i5 slate near the launch and I still use it all the time. Significantly better than using a Surface, iPad Pro gives me a twinge of envy

I have a Pixel Slate i5, it’s decent. Very quick, the on-screen keyboard with Swype is pretty much the only decent way to use Chrome with a Tablet form-factor.

I’ve noticed some cables, like my Dell WD-15 dock, seem to be loose in the port while others are very tug. I’ve heard some mixed reviews about https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Adapter-Connector-Transfer-Compatible/dp/B07TT6NGBC/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=usb+c+magnetic+data&qid=1567282002&s=gateway&sr=8-7 which should allow for data transfer and power delivery. I’ve thought about investing in some, too.

This is ironic, because the Pixel Slate is an outstanding tablet for running Chrome. Far better experience than using it on any Windows tablet. Google’s touch controls are fully compatible with Chrome, power management and battery life on a Pixel outperform my defunct Surface Pro 4. I hope they continue to improve the tablet experience, otherwise this $1000 Pixel Slate i5 might not have been such a great purchase after all. There’s rumors that Google will enable dual-booting to Windows, I guess that will suffice - the hardware is still great.

The best way to do this is with Google’s Remote Desktop implementation https://remotedesktop.google.com/ . The client works purely in Chrome, supports touch, and will generally be less resource intensive then Android solutions like Steam or Moonlight. There is a Moonlight for Chrome, but it it’s unusable on ChromeOS in my experience.

I’m writing this on an i5 slate and I like it a lot. If you primarily use Chrome and like the idea of running Android or Linux apps, it’s a great option. Not the most refined OS, but a better experience generally than Windows and the Slate hardware is great.

Very happy with my i5, but I had the m3 for a few days and honestly it performs about the same in chrome. I think the extra power helps out in Android and Crostini though.
